The police lieutenant (Grant Withers) acts as if he's meeting Wong for the first time. Maybe they had to acknowledge the change, since the new star was noticeably younger than his predecessor. Later, Fox dropped both series. Monogram acquired the Chan series and got to produce the real thing instead of just the imitation. BTW, speaking of Lugosi, I think he made a movie called "The Mysterious Mr. Wong." The character was not the same as Karloff's detective, though.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8960792465823912.post-71570799187878440902012-04-23T22:50:28.906+01:002012-04-23T22:50:28.906+01:00I thought THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY started off well,...I thought THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY started off well, but ran out of steam before it was half over. With WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S, I was bored before the TV ad for it was over. ("OK, OK, the guy's dead and they are trying to prop up the body and make it look like he's still alive. I get it, already.") Maybe the premise of the inconvenient corpse is just better suited to a short skit than a full-length movie. It made for a hilarious episode of FAWLTY TOWERS.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8960792465823912.post-9731229938463462242012-04-23T16:41:25.095+01:002012-04-23T16:41:25.095+01:00Wow, that's a whole three people who've re...Wow, that's a whole three people who've read this already! Yes, Mr Karno, the Semon WIZARD OF OZ is another fine addditon to the filmic slumber-canon. Crikey, that was dull. And if we were in bed together, it was probably that time when you were planning to marry the rich old widow, "Object: Matrimony" and we had to stay awake in the old house with Jitters, the mad butler, serving invisible soup. And there was a man's hand at the bottom of the bed. Mr. Coniam, I know you're made of sturdier stuff than I am, so perhaps you might try Hitchcock's near-endless THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY for the inducement of a comatose state.Karl La Fonghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13502231768171646971noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8960792465823912.post-45499907035436963192012-04-23T07:37:28.613+01:002012-04-23T07:37:28.613+01:00I was one of the five who read the Lugosi piece.
